很多看過動作類電影的小夥伴們，想必都會對這樣的鏡頭記憶尤深——男主角面對敵人的正面襲擊，然後帥氣地一扭頭，再轉頭回來，嘴裡咬著個子彈，順帶著人畜無害的邪魅一笑，深藏功與名。

那在英語中，也剛好有與之對應的表達，叫做bite the bullet，猜猜看，Bite是咬，bullet是子彈，那“Bite the bullet”是啥意思？

1）Bite the bullet

Bite the bullet字面上看是“咬子彈”，而且確實也有這個意思，只不過無緣無故咱也不可能去咬這個玩意啊。那到底啥意思呢？

看看英語解釋：To deal with a difficult situation which cannot be avoided，也就是對付一個無法避免的困難的境遇。

因此，bite the bullet意味著硬著頭皮對付艱難情況，咬緊牙關應付，也可以說set your teeth。

英語例句：

① I know it is really tough，but you have to bite the bullet and try your best to get it done.

我知道這確實很艱難，但是你必須得咬緊牙關，盡最大努力把它搞定。

2）Silver bullet or Magic bullet

接下來學習幾個和bullet有關的詞組，比如silver bullet，字面上看是“銀子彈”，啥意思？

英文解釋：A simple solution to a complicated problem，也就是解決某個複雜問題的一個很簡單的方案。

因此，silver bullet指的是（輕鬆解決難題的）妙招或靈丹妙藥，也叫做magic bullet，而在醫學上則稱為“魔彈”，指能快速治癒疾病的藥物或療法。

英語例句：

① Adam was praised by the boss because he got a magic bullet that solved a difficult problem.

亞當被老闆表揚了，因為他找到了一個解決難題的妙招。

3）Sweat bullets or Sweat blood

第三個詞組叫sweat bullets，sweat表示流汗，所以這裡的bullets很容易理解——代表“汗珠”。

英語解釋：To suffer intense distress or anxiety or work very intensely and diligently，也就是遭受極度的痛苦和焦慮，或者非常勤勉地工作。

因此，sweat bullets可以指非常擔憂，或者賣命苦幹，也叫sweat blood。

英語例句：

① We sweated bullets for almost one year and finally got the project finished.

我們賣命地苦幹了幾乎一年，終於把項目完成了。
