在《新概念英語》經典版第二冊第40課的難點部分裡，出現了make的短語用法，今天我們就來做個梳理分享。
一、教材中的短語
（一）make conversation
該短語表示“閒聊”。如：
It can be very difficult to make conversation at a party. （在聚會時有時很難找話題跟人應酬。）
（二）make the bed
該短語表示“整理床鋪”，有時bed也可以用複數，即make the beds。此外，定冠詞the也可以去掉。如：
The first thing he does after getting up is to make the bed. （他起床後的第一件事就是整理床鋪。）
She often goes downstairs after making the beds. （她經常整理好床鋪後就下樓去.）
Can you send up one of your housekeepers to make bed? （請你派個女服務員來整理床鋪好嗎？）
Make beds and straighten up rooms. （整理床鋪和房間。）
【注意】
英語中有一句相關的諺語，即：
As you make your bed so you must lie on it. （自己鋪床自己睡，即“自作自受”。）
（三）make noise
該短語表示“叫嚷，發出噪音”。noise前可以插入much等修飾語。如：
You mustn't make noise in the reading room. （你不許在閱覽室喧譁。）
Tell those boys not to make so much noise. （叫那些小男孩別這麼大聲嚷嚷。）
（四）make a promise
該短語表示“許諾”。如：
If you make a promise, you should fulfil it. （你若是作出允諾，就必須履行。）
（五）make trouble
該短語表示“鬧事；搗亂”。trouble前可以插入much等修飾語。如：
If he comes here again and tries to make trouble, he'll get an earful from me. （他如果再來這裡搗亂，我就會把他臭罵一頓。）
Ever since Fred made much trouble at our party last Christmas his name has been mud around here. （自從上次聖誕節弗萊德在我們的聚會上鬧事之後，他在這一帶已經名聲狼藉了。）
（六）make progress
該短語表示“取得進步或進展”。progress前面可以插入great等修飾語。如：
He made progress in English bit by hit. （他在英語方面逐漸取得進步。）
Practise more and you'll make great progress. （練習,你會取得很大進步。）
（七）make money
該短語表示“賺錢”。money前面可以插入much等修飾語。如：
If you want to make money, buy cheap and sell dear. （要想賺錢就得賤買貴賣。）
We don't make much money,but we are able to keep our heads above water. （我們雖然掙錢不多，但總算還可以維持。）
【注意】
英語中表“賺錢”的另一個常用短語為：earn money。如：
I am going to teach until my son can earn money. （我教書要教到我兒子能夠賺錢。）
（八）make a speech
該短語表示“做演講”。如：
He is going to make a speech in public. （他將當眾發表演說。）
（九）make a mistake
該短語表示“犯錯”。mistake可以複數，即make mistakes。如：
If I made a mistake, I will try to remedy it. （我如果有錯的話，我會改正的。）
We're all liable to make mistakes when we're tired. （人若疲勞誰都可能出差錯。）
（十）make up one's mind
該短語表示“下定決心”。如果one's指的是複數，則mind也要用複數minds。如：
They gave me a week to make up my mind. （他們允許我有一週的時間作決定。）
It took us a long time to make up our minds. （我們花了很長時間才作出決定。）
二、其他常用的短語
（十一）make use of
該短語表示“利用；使用”。如：
We train them to make use of reference books. （我們訓練他們使用參考書。）
We must make full use of our spare time. （我們必須善用我們的業餘時間。）
（十二）make a difference
該短語表示“有影響；起作用”。如：
One honest man can make a difference. （有一個老實人就可以大變樣。）
Does his absence make a difference to your work? （沒有他,會影響你的工作嗎?）
（十三）make sense
該短語表示“講得通；有意義”。如：
This sentence doesn't make sense. （這個句子沒有意義。）
They tried to make sense of her mumblings. （ 他們試圖弄明白她在嘟噥些什麼。）
（十四）make an effort
該短語表示“努力做某事”，其用法為：make an effort to do sth.。也可以用作：make effort或make efforts。如：
I'll make an effort to stop drinking alcohol. （我要盡力戒酒。）
The workers are making effort to overfulfil this year's plan. （工人們正在努力超額完成今年的計劃。）
We must make efforts to translate our ideal into reality. （我們必須努力把理想變為現實。）
