Once you step into a gymnasium, or simply a gym, you enter a world filled with hormone and sweat. But do you know the jargon[ˈdʒɑrgən]行話;黑話 in the gym? If you really want to have a good shape and make up your mind to work out, you can not miss the stuff below.

一踏入健身房,你就進入了一個充斥著荷爾蒙和汗水的世界。但健身房裡的一些行話你又知道多少呢?一起來看下吧!

Let’s first get to know some of the equipments that are commonly seen in a gym.

1. Barbell[ˈbɑrbel]:槓鈴

This is a long bar that typically weights 35-45 pounds, although there are lighter versions at most commercial gyms. You load weight on both ends of a barbell to increase the resistance. Don’t let your ego get in the way when using a barbell--it’s easy to get injured with these.

槓鈴杆通常重35到45磅,當然在大多數健身房還有更輕的槓鈴可供選擇。小夥伴們可以在槓鈴杆的兩端增加重量以加強鍛鍊效果。小夥伴們用槓鈴鍛鍊的時候一定不要硬撐哦,不然是很容易受傷的!

2. Dumbbell[ˈdʌmˌbɛl]:啞鈴

Dumbbells are typically comprised of a handle in between two weights. They can be used individually, or you can use two at the same time. Dumbbells are usually fixed, meaning that you can’t change the weight, or adjustable, meaning you can add resistance by attaching more weight to the dumbbell.

啞鈴通常由一個握杆和兩端的加重組成。它們既可以單個使用,也可以成對使用,這就要看具體的健身動作了。啞鈴通常是固定重量的,就是大家在健身房裡看到的碼放得整整齊齊的那種;當然也有可調節的,改變兩端的加重就好了,不過這種昊仔倒是沒有見過。

3.Plate: 金屬板(俗稱鐵片)

Plates are the weights that go on each end of a barbell or adjustable dumbbell. In America, plates typically weigh 45, 35, 25, 10, 5 or 2.5 pounds, while most international plates are 25, 20, 17, 10, 5, 2.5, 2, or 1 kilogram.

鐵片就是我們在啞鈴或槓鈴兩端用來調整重量的東西啦~美式規格的鐵片通常分45、35、25、10、5或2.5磅重,而國際標準規格的鐵片以千克計算,通常分25、20、17、10、5、2.5、2或1千克。

After knowing some terms on equipments, now we come to the several words which describe how we do bodybuilding.在瞭解了一些健身設備的名詞之後,是時候看看健身的一些具體方式啦!

1. Set: 組數

A set is a group of repetitions, and typically you will perform 2 to 8 or more sets for any given exercise.

一個Set就是一組鍛鍊動作,那麼通常我們在每個特定的練習上都會做兩到八組,當然具體數量是因人而異的啦!

E.g. I was totally worn out after finishing 10 sets of push-ups.

做了10組俯臥撐以後我整個人都散架了。

2. Tempo:節奏;速度

The tempo in gym simply refers to the speed at which you lift.

所以說Tempo就是健身房裡專指動作頻率或速度的術語啦!

E.g. Hey my bro, what’s the tempo when you work out the last set of barbell?

嘿,老兄,你做上一組槓鈴的節奏是怎樣的?

3.Cramping:壓緊;約束;痙攣

Exercising a muscle using shortened movements that causes a muscle to cramp, contracting painfully perhaps to the point of temporary fatigue to achieve a greater pump.

通過縮短每個動作的完成時間迫使肌肉壓緊,伴隨疼痛和暫時性的疲乏使肌肉獲得更強的刺激。

E.g. Cramping means you do as many repetitions as possible in a certain period of time.

Cramping意味著你需要在固定的時間內做完成儘可能多的動作。

Sometimes you may need to interact with other people while doing exercise and here is the example below.健身房也是一個社交場所,下面就是一個例子哦~

Work in:插進;摻和

If you are asked by someone saying that “Hi, Can I work in?”, this means they would like to share a piece of equipment at the gym with you. It may also mean that they’re just hitting on you, so be careful of who you let “work in”.

如果在健身房裡邊兒,某人向你詢問能否work in的時候,他(她)是希望能跟你共用某種健身器械。當然,有時他們可能僅僅是在搭訕哦,嘿嘿,所以還是留多一個心眼兒喲~
