Actually, Ham is slightly abbreviation for "Hamfatter" in American English, which means bad actor.
Except for this explanation, "Ham actor" comes from a little story. Once upon a time there was a man in the United States who went on the road with an opera troupe called Ham 's Actors.
Because of the poor acting skills of the opera troupe, the term ham actor has developed to the present day.
